My name is Asher David Edelson, and this is the blog which I created for my uncle, Barry Robins. This was a man who lived for the arts, and was famous in his time. Like so many others, Barry passed away due to AIDS complications. He lived a short life, but accomplished so much. His work and memory will continue to be famous, and he will not have died in vain. I cannot complete this alone! I need for people who knew Barry to help me expand this blog. Let us spread the word of Barry David Robins!

More to come! And if anybody has pictures of him, comment and let me know!
What an amazing range he had! I regret that I only ever saw him in Bless the Beasts and Children--great as that was. I wish I could have seen his stage work.
to Bill- he was also in some other large performances, like The King and I (at Lincoln Center) and many TV shows. He almost made Robin (he actually did, but was told he was no longer needed) in the Batman TV Series, but the other guy beat him to it in some unfair way. to bri171- I am happy that he did. Hopefully my website brought some good memories of him back to your mind.
I couldn't find, 'Bless The Beasts and the Children' on Netflix or Hulu or Put Locker. I finally found it on YouTube in very good shape. It's worth the money to watch 1971's version of, 'Stand By Me'. I remember this movie was actually controversial (controversy lost in time), as kids swearing, dealing (albeit glibly) with homosexuality, in tighty whities, smoking, rebelling, peeing, stealing cars, and getting killed was just not heard of in 1971. I I'm pretty sure it was re-rated PG but then it was R. Today it's nothing. Spend the money and watch this wonderful film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FyFUm5r-f4

ReplyDeleteHe made a big impression on me when I was a kid. I identified with a few of the characters in that movie, and it always brings a tear to my eyes.
